My Friends!

All my friends stopped by today!

Well, almost all, that is to say.

I tossed and turned and woke to see

My good friend Cheer across from me.

We sat and talked, but then she walked,

Though I called her name dejectedly.


The hours crept by as I peered at my phone.

And that is when Loneliness found me alone.

He pined and he moaned and I wished him away.

I rather dislike seeing him every day.

So that's when I got up and dialed some tones.

My ears filled with voices to drown out his groans.


He stood up and walked out and then he was gone.

So then who was that who was crossing my lawn?

Anger was coming to pound on my door.

He burst in and shouted and let out a roar.

Out 'round the back ran my friend Fun.

Whenever Anger's around he's been known to run.

I leapt up and dashed off as fast as I could.

But Anger came too, like I knew that he would.

I fled to my room and I hid in my bed

And waited for Anger to rear his hot head.


I heard not his voice, and he did not appear.

Yet I still had the feeling that someone was near.

I looked to the door where I'd won the race,

And found Calm kneeling not a foot from my face.

I held out my arms, and she hugged me tightly.

I pulled back a little and kissed her head lightly.

Until the light faded we sat there together.

She's always been there when I'm under the weather.

And as we laid down together to get our night's rest,

I swear I felt something twang deep in my chest.

I looked over at Calm, watched her chest rise and fall.

And, with a start, realized that I had it all.


I kissed her soft cheek and I tucked back her hair.

And thought over my day as I watched her sleep there.

I have lots of friends, some more pleasant than others,

But the best friend by far is the friend of two lovers.

She'd always been with me, just floating above.

I made a new friend today, and her name was Love.
